Christie Rampone Named To N.J. Hall of Fame

The captain of the U.S. Women's World Cup soccer team is one of 13 inductees on a list that includes Derek Jeter and Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Christie Rampone, the captain of the U.S. Women’s World Cup soccer team, is adding another honor to her list: member of the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Rampone was one of 13 inductees named by the hall as part of its 2015 class. The 2015 inductees also include New York Yankees star Derek Jeter and Dick Vitale, the college basketball announcer whose unique style has punctuated many an NCAA tournament game; writers James Fenimore Cooper, who wrote “The Last of the Mohicans,” and Anna Quindlen; the musical group Kool and the Gang from the late 1970s and early ‘80s, and Jon Stewart.

Businessmen William Fox, whose film company was the predecessor of Twentieth Century Fox; Lewis Katz, former owner of the New Jersey Devils and Nets, and Bernard Marcus, the founder of Home Depot, represent the Enterprise category. Jack H. Jacobs, a Vietnam veteran who served two tours in the Army and received two Silver Stars, three Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts is in the Public Service category along with Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died in June 2013.

Carla Harris, vice chairman of wealth management, managing director and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley, is being inducted in the unsung hero category.

Rampone, who turned 40 this week, is the lone member of the U.S. squad that won the inaugural Women’s World Cup in 1999. She has the most international game appearances for the U.S. Women’s National Team and has won Olympic gold in addition to the World Cup.

The three-sport star at Point Pleasant High School who went on to play both basketball and soccer at Monmouth University, setting scoring records in the process, played most of her club soccer for the Twin County Soccer Association, based in Brick.
