Comedy Night Aims To Raise Funds For Veterinary Fund In Brick

The fund helps pay for treatment for animals who are strays or whose owners cannot afford it.

Brick, NJ — There's a saying that it is not a person who rescues an animal, but an animal who rescues a person.

Sometimes, however, both need a helping hand.

At the Brick Town Veterinary Hospital, they have just the answer: the Molly Marie Angel Fund.

"The fund was started approximately 10 years ago when a little Bichon named Molly Marie was diagnosed with a spinal tumor," said Dr. Mary Lou Brongo, a veterinarian at the Brick vet hospital. "The owners could not afford her surgery so we raised money to have her treated. With the excess money we started the angel fund."

The fund is modest, Brongo said, but the money has helped cover the care of animals who otherwise would have been euthanized.

One of the ways they keep the fund going is through a comedy show fundraiser, she said. It is hosted by local comedian Jeff Norris; "Lou Russo from 94.3 The Point has also participated for the past three years," Brongo said.

This year's comedy night fundraiser is set for Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Manasquan Elks Club. The show stars Norris and Russo will make a special appearance. There will be music by The Two Johns, and comedians Richie Byme and Mike Morse will perform.

There will be gift baskets raffled off, and there are options for both dinner and the comedy show only.

Tickets are $40 each for dinner and the show, $25 for the show only, and can be purchased at the Brick Town Veterinary Hospital on Chambers Bridge Road.

The show is at the Manasquan Elks Club, 17 Stockton Lake Boulevard, Manasquan. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the comedy show begins at 8 p.m.
