Cops: Ocean County Man Shot In Face After Leaving Bar

A man on a bicycle managed to get the victim on the ground; the victim reported hearing two gunshots go off near his face.

Local police say they are looking for suspects who attempted to rob a Jersey Shore man after he left a bar, and then shot him in the face.

At 2:56 am on Thursday, police officers responded to a residence located off of West Countyline Road in Jackson to speak with a man who said he was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting.

The victim reported that at, approximately 2 a.m., he had left a bar located within Brook Plaza at 400 South New Prospect Road and was walking home through a rear parking lot of the plaza adjacent to A&M Texaco, police said.

He was approached by a male on a bicycle who reportedly displayed a knife and demanded money from him. A struggle then ensued and a second male joined in to assault the victim, police said.

While the victim was on the ground, he reported hearing two gunshots go off near his face. The suspects then ran off. The victim then eventually made his way home and reported the incident, police said.

The victim sustained an injury that appeared to be a gunshot wound to his face and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The injury was reportedly non-life threatening at this time, police said.

This investigation is ongoing at this time and involved multiple Jackson patrol officers, detectives and their supervisors as well as members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s CIU Unit.
