All VA New Jersey Health Care System sites and clinics are updating their COVID-19 safety protocols due to rising cases in the area.

BRICK, NJ — Stricter protocols, including social distancing, are again required at all VA New Jersey Health Care System sites and clinics due to rising COVID-19 cases in the area.

This includes the James J. Howard Veterans' Outpatient Clinic on Route 70 in Brick. The Ocean County Health Department reported 1,229 new positive COVID cases for the week of May 18.

Everyone must wear a mask and keep physical distance from others. The clinic may screen people for COVID-19 symptoms at the entrance. Only approved visitors are allowed in.

The VHA COVID-19 Health Protection Level is currently at high and will be updated as needed on Mondays.

"Our local Veterans are resolute about receiving their care at our facility and we want to keep them safe during the ups and downs of COVID-19 community spread," said John A. Griffith, Acting Executive Medical Center Director. "Instead of increasing or decreasing access to care, safety protocols will be adjusted based on COVID-19 levels in the community."
