Delayed Natural Gas Main Work To Shut Cedar Bridge Road In Brick
The work was expected to start more than a week ago; expect traffic disruptions and detours.
BRICK, NJ — The installation of a natural gas main that was scheduled to begin almost two weeks ago is finally set to get underway Tuesday evening.
Brick Township police said the closure, from Brick Boulevard to Old Hooper Avenue, will be in place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights while J.F. Kiely Co. installs about 20,000 feet of 16-inch gas main as part of ongoing work by New Jersey Natural Gas to replace the gas main.
It is the second phase of a project that started with the main replacement on Mantoloking Road between the Ocean County Utilities Authority and the Mantoloking Bridge earlier this year, and part of a project that is anticipated to take two years to complete.

"(It is) difficult and methodical work, especially at night," police said.
A full detour will be in place on Cedar Bridge Avenue between Brick Boulevard and Hooper Avenue, which authorities feel will provide the greatest safety for workers and the public, and allow the work to be completed as quickly as possible.

Town officials authorized the contractor to work at night to minimize the impact to the public and businesses.
"We ask for the public's patience and understanding that work such as this is critical to maintaining and improving our vital infrastructure, which will benefit all of us far into the future," officials said.
