BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township man has been charged with driving under the influence following a crash Friday that took down a utility pole on Brick Boulevard, police said.

William Bittel Jr., 66, was not injured in the crash that happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Patrol Officer Victoria Finelli said. The downed pole resulted in power outages affecting homes on both sides of Brick Boulevard.

The utility pole, which was down in front of Yokohama sushi and hibachi steakhouse, forced authorities to close the southbound lanes from Cedar Bridge Avenue to North Lake Shore Drive for nearly 24 hours, Finelli said.
