Drug Sweep At Brick High School Part Of Efforts To Fight Crisis
The unannounced sweeps have been conducted at Ocean County high schools since 2013.
As part of authorities’ continuing efforts to battle the drug crisis In Ocean County, Brick Township police K-9 units and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office conducted an unannounced search at Brick Township High School Friday morning.
The sweeps have been conducted in middle schools and high schools in Ocean County since 2013 to try to deter teens from using drugs.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, didn’t get into details of the sweep at Brick because, he said, the goal is to promote a safe environment.

“A typical sweep is completed in just over an hour,” he said, but it can take a bit longer, as locker rooms and lockers are checked.
But if drugs are found, “we advise the school officials and parents so that they will be aware of an issue and can take corrective action,” Della Fave said. “ We don’t want this to become a ‘what is the worst high school’ thing.”
