Dune Project Update: Brick Beach 1 May Open Saturday: Mayor

The Army Corps dune and beach replenishment is progressing; Brick Beach 2 and 3 already were completed.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Beach 1 will likely reopen for use on Saturday, Brick Township Mayor John Ducey announced Thursday night at SummerFest.

The beach had been closed down for use since earlier in the week due to the ongoing Army Corps of Engineers beach replenishment project.

The ongoing $128 million project, which is widening the beaches and constructing dunes from Manasquan Inlet to the north end of Island Beach State Park, involves closing the beach while sand dredged from offshore is poured onto the beach and spread around (see the video of what it looks like below).

Brick Beach 2 and Brick Beach 3 already have been completed as the contractor, Weeks Marine, works around the clock to get the replenishment work completed.

"Please remember that this project is being done by the Army Corps of Engineers and the township has no say with regards to timing or beach closures," the township said in a Facebook post earlier in the week. "Thank you for your understanding and patience."
