Election 2017: Brando Defeats Ebert In Brick GOP Mayoral Primary

The mayoral race will now pit the former councilman against incumbent John Ducey and independent Rob Canfield.

BRICK, NJ — Domenick Brando, the former Brick Township councilman who is the Brick Republican Club's nominee for the mayoral race, is the official Republican nominee.

Brando, who was being challenged by fellow Republican Martin Ebert, won Tuesday night's GOP primary handily, receiving 1,734 votes to 724 for Ebert.

Brando will now take on incumbent Mayor John G. Ducey, the Democratic nominee, and Rob Canfield, who has filed to run for mayor as an independent.

Brando and his running mates, Township Council candidates Marilyn Lago, John Ciocco and Lois Turner, will be seeking to break the Democratic hold on all of the seats on the governing body.

Ducey is seeking his second term as mayor, and is joined in his bid for re-election by council members Heather deJong, Paul Mummolo and Marianna Pontoriero, who also are seeking their second terms.

Ebert had campaigned on ensuring that conservative Republicans and President Trump supporters had a voice in the township's government. But in a post on Facebook Tuesday night, Ebert congratulated Brando on his victory: "Heartfelt thanks to all of you on FB that shared your best wishes and efforts on my behalf. Your encouragement went a long way. Special thanks to my wife and kids that put up with my b---. Congratulations to Mr. Brando and to the local Republican organization on their victory."
