Election 2020: 5 Seeking Seats On Brick School Board

There are two, three-year terms up for election in November, and five people seeking to serve on the Board of Education.

BRICK, NJ — Five people have filed petitions seeking election to the Brick Township Board of Education in November.

The Ocean County Clerk's office released the names of the five candidates, whose petitions were filed by 4 p.m. Monday, the deadline to be on the Nov. 3 ballot.

There are two, three-year terms on the board up for election. Jessica Clayton, one of the incumbents, is seeking election to a second term. Board member Maria Foster has decided not to seek a second term.

The positions are strictly volunteer; school board members do not receive a salary.

Clayton, who operates a private preschool, is seeking re-election under the "Fighting for Funding" slogan. Also running alone are Michael A. Blandina, under the "Brick First" slogan, and Melissa Lozada, under the "Time for Change" slogan. Micah Bender and Melissa Parker are running together under the "Transparency and Community" slogan.

Blandina is the chairman of the Ocean County Columbus Day Parade. Bender is an educational program specialist for the state Department of Education. Parker is a stay-at-home mother with four children in Brick's schools. Information on Lozada wasn't immediately available.
