Electric Vehicle Charging Guidelines Set In Brick
Township officials passed another ordinance this week to support electric vehicle infrastructure in Brick.
BRICK, NJ — Brick Township is building a framework for electric vehicles, as Council recently approved an ordinance establishing rules for installing EV charging stations in the township.
Officials formed a committee last year to explore making the township more electric vehicle-friendly, for example creating charging stations at public parks and beginning to transition the township’s fleet of vehicles to electric.
Brick officials plan to install electric vehicle charging stations on township property for public and private use.

At the Dec. 13 meeting, council members approved an ordinance establishing a new chapter of the Township Code regarding EV charging stations. Vehicle owners will be allowed to use township charging stations for a fee, provided they follow application instructions.
After the vehicle is fully charged, the owner has a 30-minute grace period to move it before the township begins charging a $10 per hour occupancy fee. The township may tow the vehicle if it is not removed within an hour, according to the ordinance.

The township passed another ordinance in November encouraging the installation of electric vehicle supply/service equipment (EVSEs, or charging docks/stations) and make-ready parking spaces, which are pre-wired to make it easier to install charging hardware in the future. That ordinance also establishes rules and regulations for any business or resident wishing to install their own EV charging station.
