UPDATE: Boiler Room Motor Caught Fire at Brick School, Superintendent Says

No injuries reported in Tuesday's incident

UPDATE: Brick Township Schools Superintendent Walter Uszenski said an electrical fire that resulted in the evacuation of Drum Point Elementary School was the result of a boiler room motor that burned out.

“A motor burned out in the boiler room and caught fire,” he said by telephone Tuesday evening.

All of the students were safely evacuated while firefighters ensured the fire was out, he said.

EARLIER: An electrical fire resulted in the evacuation of Drum Point Elementary School just before 1 p.m. today, Brick Township police reported.

Sgt. Henry Drew said police and fire units responded to a 12:55 p.m. report of the fire at the school, at 41 Drum Point Road.

Students were evacuated from the school and taken to Emma Havens Young School, across the parking lot at the same complex, while smoke was cleared from the building, Drew said.

As of 1:20 pm, the smoke had been cleared out, and students were returning to the school, he said.
