BRICK, NJ — Brick Township police issued more than 20 summonses to boaters at the popular F Cove over the weekend, police said.

The Brick Township Police Marine Unit had two boats with four officers and two EMTs stopped 24 vessels over the weekend, with 13 stops on Saturday and 11 and Sunday, Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

There were nine summonses issued Saturday and 11 on Sunday for a variety of maritime law offenses, including careless operation, wake-zone violations and registration and licensing issues, Kelly said.

Kelly said police presence was heavy in and around the F Cove, with Brick police supported by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, New Jersey State Police, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Kelly said the patrols were in response to complaints the department received about unruly behavior.

"Chief James Riccio would like to remind boaters that our waterways are there for all to enjoy, but that respect for others and the rule of law and orderly operation is paramount in keeping the boating experience pleasant for everyone," Kelly said.

"Behavior that is disruptive or illegal will be handled accordingly by the men and women of our Marine Unit," Kelly said. "Enjoy the summer on the waterways of Brick Township, but do so safely and considerately."

There have been problems in F Cove in the past. In 2012 access to the cove was shut down because of rowdy parties, that included loud music, excessive drinking, littering and, at one point, even a barge with a club DJ blaring dance music.
