Fire Heavily Damages Brick Family's Home

The fire shut down traffic on Mantoloking Road for several hours while firefighters battled the blaze.

BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township family was forced from its home Thursday afternoon when a fire tore through the house and caused significant damage.

Black smoke coming from a home on Sunset Road was reported about 1:30 p.m., Brick Sgt. James Kelly said. Patrolmen Robert Heschle and Chris Newlund began evacuating nearby homes while firefighters arrived to start fighting the fire.

The fire reached three alarms, with Brick's Breton Woods, Pioneer Hose, Laurelton and Herbertsville fire companies receiving support from the Silverton and Point Pleasant fire companies.

Brick Township Police EMS along with Point Boro First Aid also responded.

Mantoloking Road was closed from Church Road to Laurel Avenue for several hours while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The home sustained heavy fire damage before being brought under control, Kelly said.
