Firemen washing traffic lights

LED signals were hazardous to driving because they were covered with snow,

Brick firefighters have their trucks out on township roads, spraying water on snow-covered traffic lights today.

At least one traffic accident has been blamed on the LED lights, which don’t get warm enough to melt snow on their surfaces -- unlike incandescent bulbs.

That mishap involving a pickup truck and a sedan, was the the corner of Mantoloking Road and Route 35 this morning. No serious injuries were reported. According to a witness, the truck’s driver said he didn’t see that a light was red because it was covered with snow.
