Flooding Forces Evacuations In Brick's Greenbriar 1

The flooding forced responders to use boats to reach people in their homes; multiple roads in Brick are flooded, according to residents.

BRICK, NJ — Flooding in the Greenbriar I senior community has forced authorities to go in by boat to evacuate residents from flooded homes.

Multiple agencies have responded and radio communications have indicated water is waist-deep or more.

The National Weather Service, which had issued a flash flood warning early Monday, said 7.83 inches of rain fell during the storm that passed through the area.

The runoff caused a multitude of flooded roads, including part of the Garden State Parkway.

As of 2 p.m., Burrsville Road remained closed between Burnt Tavern Road and Patriot Road remained closed due to flooding, Brick Township police said.

Lanes Mill Road also was closed between Greenwood Loop Road and Sawmill Road, police said.

Boats were used to assist residents in evacuating from their homes, with Brick Township personnel being assisted by personnel from Point Pleasant and Lakewood, according to radio transmissions. TowBoat US also responded with boat.

Markham Road is completely impassable and where the majority of the residents are being evacuated. The Beaver Dam Creek runs behind those homes.

Flooding is bad on a number of roads. People posting on the Whats going on in Brick Facebook page have shared photos of flooding on Burnt Tavern Road by Greenbriar 1, on Route 70 near Chambersbridge Road and reporting flooding on New York Avenue, Lanes Mill Road, Burrsville Road and on Jack Martin Boulevard, enough to block the entrance to Ocean Medical Center, according to the posts.
