Fog, Forest, Shenandoah National Park, VA

The Weekly Photograph and Article of Fine Art Photographer Colin Seitz

It was late in the day, near the time for sunset and a low cloud cover began to close in over what had been a sunny blue sky day. We had watched from one of the lookouts at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia as the cloud cover began to build. As the moisture dense summer air rose from the valley below, the air condensed and clouds began to form right before us. This initially started off as slight wisps of cloud, but the pace accelerated quickly with the areas to the left and right of us which were lower in elevation allowing the cloud cover to pass through and surround us, quickly shielding the setting sun. As we left, I noticed this large patch of fern with the cloud cover dropping in through the forest. Quickly, with the remaining light, I set up my camera, metered and then focused carefully to ensure sharp focus from the near fern all the way to the farthest tree and then made the exposure. The light was only good for a few minutes before it got too dark and a completely different look and feel took over. I had wanted a soft almost delicate feel for the scene and as the light waned, the softness transitioned into a darker scene that felt cold and heavy to me.

A big thank you to Bob and Elisabeth McKay at McKay Imaging for hosting my first solo show, and thank you all to those who came out to see it while it was up! Thank you also to Kitchorganic in Red Bank, NJ for providing excellent all organic appetizers for the opening. Shortly, I will put up on my website, www.colinseitzphotography.com all of the prints that were in the show. It was a great showing of the beauty that New Jersey has, as prints from New Jersey far outnumbered those from other places, to include Yosemite, Shenandoah, and Acadia National Parks.

Beginning, January 11th, 2015, one of my photographs will be in the first Jersey Artist Registry exhibition at the Hotel Tides in Asbury Park, NJ. Opening will be January 18th from 4-7pm, and the show will run through February 22nd, 2015. This show will have a wide range of artistic disciplines, from many artists, emerging and established. My print will be a new one, never exhibited before.

Lastly, I have been working on some new projects, which should be ready for me to release soon. Some of which include the work that I have just done in Hawaii. If you have any questions, or would like to see more of my work, please visit my fine art website, www.colinseitzphotography.com.

Hope everyone has a good week,
