Former Brick Memorial Vice Principal Mourned
James Wolfersberger Jr., 71, of Point Pleasant Beach, retired 13 years ago

James H. Wolfersberger, Jr., who lived in Point Pleasant Beach most of his life and is a former vice principal at Brick Memorial High School, has died. He was 71.
According to the obituary posted by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wolfersberger died Sunday at home surrounded by his family. He retired 13 years ago after a career in education that culminated as vice principal of Brick Memorial High School. He was a graduate of the former Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) in Ewing, where he received his master’s degree and his principal/supervisor certificate. He was subject supervisor of practical arts and business. He was named Practical Arts Supervisor of the Year for the State of New Jersey in 1980 and was inducted into the Point Pleasant Beach Educational Foundation Hall of Fame.
Wolfersberger, who was born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., and moved to Point Pleasant Beach when he was 4, played high school varsity football and baseball and was named Halfback of the Year in 1959. He continued his football career while in college at Trenton State. He was an active member of the Point Pleasant Beach Booster Club; a member of the Ocean Fire Company 1 in Point Pleasant Beach, and member of the Elks in Point Pleasant. Mr. Wolfersberger also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and the SeaWolves traveling soccer team.

Mr. Wolfersberger was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Sr. and Edna Wolfersberger. Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie (Ivory) Wolfersberger; son, Jason R. Wolfersberger and his wife, Corinne, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Kimberlee Palumbo and her husband Dominick of Point Pleasant; sisters, Barbara Santoro of Point Pleasant and Sandra Breslin of Brooksville, Fla. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Katherine Murphy, Paige Palumbo and Riley Wolfersberger.
Visiting will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle. Donations to Point Pleasant Beach First Aid, Popcorn Park Zoo/Associated Humane Society or St. Jude Children Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
