Man Arrested In Brick Gas Station Robbery: Police

The man was caught in a nearby neighborhood, witnesses said.

BRICK, NJ — A man has been arrested in connection with a gas station robbery in Brick on Friday night, police confirmed.

The robbery happened at the Exxon station at the corner of Hooper Avenue and Drum Point Road sometime after 5 p.m. Witnesses said police had blocked off the entrances to the station on Drum Point and on Hooper by 5:15 p.m. and police were putting up yellow crime scene tape shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Sgt. Erik Olsen confirmed the arrest, which happened about 6:40 p.m. He said police did not believe anyone else was involved.

K9 officers were on the scene, witnesses said, and residents who called the police department said they had been told to lock their doors.

"A friend of mine was leaving my house and witnessed the police flying in," said Sara LaPoint-Sherwood, who lives in a nearby neighborhood. She said she called police and was told to lock her doors. Police told her the gas station had been robbed.
