Girl Scouts Get Dental Health Info At Wang Orthodontics In Brick

The event to recognize Children's Dental Health Month welcomed nearly 50 Girl Scouts.

BRICK, NJ — It's Girl Scout cookie season, and those sweet treats can do a number on your smile.

But a group of Girl Scouts learned recently what they can do to counteract the sugary treats and have the best smiles for years to come during a tour at Wang Orthodontics.

The orthodontics office opened its doors to local Girl Scout troops earlier this month for a special day of educational fun to recognize Children’s Dental Health Month. Six troops totalling about 50 girls attended the event.

Each troop and their parents were welcomed into a Girl Scout-green-themed office for the day and had a chance to visit three interactive stations manned by Wang Orthodontics staff.

They began with "Dr. and Me," where the girls donned gloves and masks while Dr. Ernest Wang led them through the basics of braces. Next up was "Happy Teeth," a quick lesson in oral hygiene 101; and finally, "Brace Yourself" a DIY craft to design their own braces on a 3D tooth model.

"We love interacting with our community at any chance we can," Wang said. "The Girl Scouts were so enthusiastic and ready to learn, and we were happy to provide them with a fun experience that also taught them a thing or two about dental and orthodontic health."

At the end of the experience, each Girl Scout earned their very own one-of-a-kind Wang Orthodontics Smile Squad patch, as well as a special Dental Health certificate. To finish out the event, Wang purchased a case of cookies from each troop, which were donated to local first responder stations in the area.
