Illegal Fireworks Prompt Extra Police Patrols In Brick

A significant rise in complaints across town has Brick police cracking down on illegal aerial fireworks.

BRICK, NJ — If you've been setting off loud mortar-type fireworks in recent days, Brick Township police have a message for you: Stop.

If you don't, you're facing the potential for a $1,000 fine and six months in jail, the police department said. And because the department has been receiving numerous complaints from all over town, there will be extra police patrols specifically targeting fireworks violations.

Aerial fireworks are illegal and "they are incredibly disruptive, interrupting everyone from sleeping babies to terrified pets," the post on the department's Facebook page said.

"Igniting and launching fireworks in New Jersey can get you up to a $1000 fine and 6 months in jail. It's not worth it. In addition to the stiff penalties, people get seriously injured from fireworks every year. Fireworks also do massive property damage, sometimes causing fires on neighbors' homes, boats and vehicles," the post said.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy, so if you're planning on setting off fireworks, expect a visit from us," police said. "Stay safe, enjoy the great weather, and let's all do our best to be good neighbors."
