A Jackson man is dead and three others seriously injured after a Sunday morning crash at the intersection of Cedar Swamp Road and West Commodore Boulevard in Jackson, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
James J. McCarthy, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 10:18 a.m. accident, Al Della Fave said.

McCarthy’s wife Susan, 67, Shmuel Moerman, 51, Lakewood and Ahuva Moerman, 50, Lakewood, all suffered serious injuries and were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, he said.
Shmuel Moerman was traveling eastbound on Cedar Swamp Road in a 2015 Toyota Highlander. Susan McCarthy was driving a 2014 Toyota Rav 4 eastbound on West Commodore Boulevard. The cars collided at the intersection and the Toyota Highlander struck the passenger side of the Toyota Rav 4, Della Fave said.

A preliminary investigation by Jackson Township police determined that McCarthy had failed to stop for the red light at the intersection, he said.
Jackson police have 60 days to issue a failure to yield traffic summons to McCarthy. The matter will then be forwarded to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office for final review, Della Fave said.
