Join Brick's Snow Corps, Help Town's Seniors This Winter

The town is looking for volunteers who will join and shovel out the township's seniors during this coming winter.

BRICK, NJ — Calling all snow shovelers! Brick Township is looking for you to help township residents this winter.

Mayor John Ducey announced the township is starting a Snow Corps, where volunteers register with the township to help the town's senior citizens shovel out when the snow falls this winter.

Predictions for the winter 2016-17 weather season have ranged from an ice cold and snow filled winter from the Farmers' Almanac and of frequent storms and more snow than usual by AccuWeather to NOAA's more tame prediction of just cold temperatures.

“We all know how difficult snow removal can be. For many older and disabled residents, it is virtually impossible,” he said. “We are seeking citizens to volunteer to join the Snow Corps and help those who can’t do it themselves.”

Volunteers must be 16 or older. They will shovel the walkways, driveways and sidewalks (if necessary) of senior citizens and disabled residents who do not have the physical or financial means to have it done.

Volunteers will need to have their own snow removal equipment.

“Many of our older residents are on fixed incomes and do not have the money to hire a service to clear their driveway and may not have loved ones nearby to assist,” Ducey said. “These are the types of residents that we have in mind for this program.”

Volunteers are sought from all sections of town and will be assigned to homes as close to their own residences as possible.

"We do not want to have our volunteers driving all over town during snow removal," Ducey said. "That is why it is important for us to get volunteers from throughout the community.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Brick Township Snow Corps or for being on the service list should call 732-262-4713.

An online registration form will be available on the Township website, www.bricktownship.net in the near future, officials said.
