Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is affecting Brick Township.

BRICK, NJ —The outbreak of the new coronavirus across New Jersey and the nation is having a variety of effects in Brick, including the closure of schools, businesses and a number of other facilities.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced. Gov. Phil Murphy issued a stay-at-home order across the state on March 21, closing all but essential businesses.

As of Thursday afternoon, there were 382 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Brick, among 3,105 cases in Ocean County, according to the county health department.

There were 51,027 positive tests for COVID-19 in New Jersey, and 1,700 deaths, including 119 in Ocean County, according to the state health department.

SCHOOLS: The Brick Township Schools formally announced the district's closure would extend to at least April 17, which is the end of the district's spring break. On Tuesday, however, Gov. Phil Murphy extended the public emergency through May 7.

TOWNSHIP FACILITIES: All township buildings and offices remain closed to the public until further notice. Township staff members are available by phone and email and will accommodate any need that requires direct interaction and is time sensitive. Garbage and recycling collection continue as normal. PARKS/BEACHES: All of the township's beaches and parks are closed, as are all playgrounds. The state additionally closed all its parks as of April 7.
