Contractor Damaged Cherry Quay Gas Line, NJ Natural Gas Says

Natural gas service to the area was expected to be restored Friday morning.

BRICK, NJ — A contractor with Earle damaged a natural gas main on Thursday, leaving more than 500 residents in the Cherry Quay section of Brick without gas service overnight, authorities and the gas company said.

About 540 homes were affected when service was shut off Thursday after the contractor with the asphalt company hit the gas main, said Kevin Roberts, a spokesman for New Jersey Natural Gas. The main was damaged along Cherry Quay Road near Tiller Drive, he said.

Some residents in the neighborhood said they still did not have service as of 9 a.m.

Roberts said the company shut off service in the area to do the repairs and hoped restore service by 8 a.m.
