Man Attacked Woman, Stabbed Her Male Friend In Brick: Police

The man broke into the apartment of the woman, his former friend, after realizing another man was in the apartment, police said.

BRICK, NJ -- A Monmouth County man broke into an apartment early Thursday morning and attacked a woman and stabbed her male friend after he became enraged that the man was in the apartment, Brick police said Thursday afternoon.

Nelson Rodriguez, 31, of Ocean Township, Monmouth County, is facing multiple charges in the incident, which happened shortly after midnight Thursday, Brick Sgt. Neal Pedersen said.

Pedersen said police were called to the Sawmill Road residence at 12:25 a.m. and found a 25-year-old Hispanic male and a 24-year-old white female who had several scrapes and abrasions. The male had been stabbed in the chest and hands, Pedersen said.

Officers found the two had been assaulted by Rodriguez, whom police described as an ex-friend of the woman.

Pedersen said the investigation determined Rodriguez became enraged when he went to the woman’s home and realized that the other male was inside. Police say he broke into the residence and began assaulting the two, stabbing the man in the chest and hands while the man tried to fight him off. Pedersen said the man was able to get away from Rodriguez and flee the residence to get help.

Rodriguez then grabbed the two victims’ cell phones and fled the area, Pedersen said.

The woman was treated at the scene but the man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by the Brick Police EMS for treatment, Pedersen said.

Rodriguez was arrested at his home in Ocean Township about 1 p.m. and arrested by Ocean Township police without incident, Pedersen said.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, burglary, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, theft and criminal mischief, Pedersen said.

Rodriguez is being held at the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, in lieu of $175,000 bail, no 10 percent option as set by Municipal Court Judge Robert M. Lepore, Pedersen said.

Detective Mark Byrne and Detective Timothy McCarthy are continuing their investigation, he said.
