Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Cherry Quay Stabbing In Brick

A woman is in critical condition; she was found by a Brick Township police officer who was on patrol in the area.

BRICK, NJ — A Manchester Township man is facing attempted murder and weapons charges in the stabbing of a woman in the Cherry Quay section of Brick on Thursday evening, authorities said Friday.

Harry J. Bray Jr., 35, is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Brick Township Police Chief James Riccio said in a joint news release.

A Brick Township police officer on patrol was doing a routine check about 5:30 p.m. Thursday off Cherry Quay Road when the officer saw a vehicle with two flat tires in a parking lot, authorities said. In their initial statement Thursday night, Brick police said it was in the area of the Cherry Quay bicycle trail.

When the officer began to check around the vehicle, he found a woman on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds, authorities said.

The woman, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition, he said.

Investigators were able to determine Bray was responsible for the woman's injuries, authorities said. Bray was arrested later in the evening Thursday in Manchester without incident, they said.

Bray has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, authorities said.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department, Manchester Township Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit were involved in the investigation, authorities said.
