BRICK, NJ — A Budd Lake man has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash that injured two women on Saturday at the intersection of Drum Point and Mandalay roads, Brick Township police said Wednesday.

Tyler Pratt, 23, was arrested after the crash, which happened about 8 p.m. Saturday, Brick Traffic Safety Officer Dan Fogarty said.

Lynnea Prunkl, 79, and her passenger, Fay Novoshelski, 78, both of Brick, were taken to Ocean County Medical Center, Brick, for treatment of pain in the chest, neck and along the right sides of their bodies, Fogarty said.

Fogarty said the preliminary crash investigation showed Pratt was driving a white 2019 F-150 Ford pickup truck "at a high rate of speed" west on Drum Point Road when he hit the gray 2007 Infiniti M35 driven by Prunkl.

Prunkl was making a left turn from Mandalay Road onto Drum Point Road when Pratt's pickup truck hit the Infiniti on the rear passenger side, which made the Infiniti spin and hit a vehicle parked in the lot at Bayside Auto, Fogarty said.

After Pratt hit Prunkl's car, he continued west on Drum Point Road and hit several street signs and a utility pole, snapping the pole in half and bringing down the attached power lines, Fogarty said.

Pratt was taken to Ocean Medical Center with facial injuries, Fogarty said.

The Breton Woods and Pioneer Hose fire companies responded, along with Brick Police Officers Brian Gordon and Chris Newlund and ID Detective Brian Williams, and Fogarty. Jersey Central Power & Light responded to replace the utility pole and repair the power lines, he said.

Fogarty said the investigation into the crash is continuing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to it should call him at 732-262-1141.
