Brick Man Injured As Car Overturns On Route 70

Manchester police said a passer-by helped the man out of the car before they arrived.

A Brick Township man was injured Monday night when the car he was driving hit a utility pole on Route 70 in Manchester, police said Tuesday.

Michael Cruz, 46, of Brick, was taken to Community Medical Center, Toms River, for evaluation after he complained of pain in his left arm, left leg and neck, Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said.

Cruz was eastbound on Route 70 about 8:10 p.m. in a black 2000 Nissan Maxima when the car left the road, hit the pole and overturned, Malland said. When police arrived, they found the on its driver’s side, facing west in the eastbound shoulder of Route 70, he said.

Officers learned Cruz had been helped from the car by a passer-by before police arrived, Malland said. Cruz was treated at the scene by paramedics from MONOC as well as members of the Manchester Volunteer First Aid Squad, and Quality Medical Transport, he said.

Quality Medical Transport took Cruz to the hospital, Malland said.

The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Patrick Cervenak of the Patrol Bureau.
