Moms Who Rock: Diane Merenda, Brick

For more than 100 years, we have taken a day to honor mothers -- those women who care for others, whether it’s by virtue of having given birth or because they are simply giving souls who watch over all of those around them.

We gave our readers the chance to tell us about their mothers and what makes them special. Here is one of those nominations:

Diane Merenda, Brick

Why is my mom the most rocking mom around? There are many reasons. She has always been there for us even when she was an active alcoholic. But now even moreso. She celebrated a year’s sobriety in March and works very hard everyday to keep this. She beat the odds since she is also going through a divorce. My mother is also a survivor of domestic violence. She is now both mother and father to us and does so without complaint. She works very hard as a server and rarely does anything for herself. My mom is the definition of rocking mom.
