More Than 3,000 Without Power After Storm In Shore Area

Jersey Central Power and Light says it expects to restore power by about 4 a.m.; Brick Memorial football game postponed to Saturday.

A fast-moving storm with strong winds has caused scattered power outages to more than 3,000 customers throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties, more than 1,500 of those in Toms River, according to officials.

The outage map maintained by First Energy, the parent company of Jersey Central Power & Light, shows pockets of outages throughout the two counties.

The company has dispatched crews and is estimating a 4 a.m. restoration time.

According to News 12, the storm took down a tree in Sayreville in Middlesex County.

The storm also disrupted high school football games throughout the Shore Conference, with many delaying the start of games less than half an hour before they were to start, and convincing others to postpone until Saturday.

Brick Memorial’s game at Old Bridge was postponed to a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. But the Brick Township at Wall game was kicking off at 8:15 p.m.
