More Than A Football Game: Support Two Great Causes As Toms River North Hosts Brick Tonight

The football team and cheerleaders have been raising money for cancer research through Roll Out The Ribbons campaign

When the Toms River North football team takes the field against Brick tonight in a Shore Conference Class A South game, there will be far more on the line than just a divisional title.

The Mariners are just as interested in raising funds for cancer research and feeding the hungry.

Shore Sports Network, which will be broadcasting the game tonight, reports the Mariners football team and cheerleaders have been raising funds through their Roll Out the Ribbons & Tackle Cancer campaign, which began earlier this month. The cancer awareness campaign is sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. While pink is clearly associated with breast cancer the “Roll Out The Ribbons” program promotes the fact there are colored ribbons associated with the fight against just about every type of cancer.

The football team and cheerleaders have been collecting donations of at least $1 at school for the different color ribbons, which will be tied along the home side fence of the football field tonight. For those coming to the game, you can donate tonight for a ribbon of honor for cancer awareness as well as purchase items like shirts and magnets.

In addition to the ribbon campaign, the football team will be collecting non-perishable items as part of their annual food drive.
