Motorcyclist 'Critical' After Route 70 Crash In Brick: Police

The man lost control of the motorcycle and hit a guardrail, police said.

BRICK, NJ -- A motorcyclist was critically injured Saturday when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a guardrail on Route 70, Brick Township police said Saturday afternoon.

Michael V. LaRocca, 30, of Toms River, suffered serious internal and external injuries as a result of the crash near the intersection with Cedar Bridge Avenue, Brick Patrolman Keith Donnelly said.

LaRocca was riding a green Kawasaki motorcycle east on Route 70 about 11 a.m. when the motorcycle began to wobble as he crossed Cedar Bridge Avenue, Donnelly said. LaRocca lost control and hit the guardrail then fell to the ground; the motorcycle slid and ended up in the westbound lanes, Donnelly said.

LaRocca was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by ambulance; Brick Township Police EMS and MONOC paramedics responded, He was listed in critical condition as of 1 p.m., Donnelly said.

Traffic was detoured in the area for nearly two hours while LaRocca was treated and the accident was investigated.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by Patrolman Gerald Lampiasi and Donnelly of the Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
