Motorcyclist Fleeing Police Dies In Jackson Crash: Prosecutor

A second man was in critical condition as a result of his car being hit by the motorcyclist, the prosecutor's office said.

JACKSON, NJ — A motorcyclist who was fleeing police was killed and another man was injured Thursday night in a crash in Jackson, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Friday.

Anthony Griffin, 22, of Jackson Township, died at the scene of the crash on South New Prospect Road, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office. Eric Larson, 24, also of Jackson, was listed in critical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, on Friday, Della Fave said.

Griffin was driving a red 2004 Yamaha 999 motorcycle east on Brewers Bridge Road approaching South New Prospect Road about 10:20 p.m. when a Jackson Township marked patrol unit saw Griffin fail to stop for a red traffic signal and turn onto South New Prospect Road, Della Fave said. The investigation found the motorcycle was unregistered with fictitious license plates attached, he said.

As Griffin headed south, the patrol officer turned on his overhead lights to pull Griffin over, but he instead sped off and within seconds hit the driver's side door of a gray 2008 Hyundai Elantra driven by Larson, who was turning left from Oak Drive to head northbound on South New Prospect Road, he said.

Della Fave said the chain of events was recorded on the patrol car's dashcam video recorder.
