BRICK, NJ — A motorcyclist was injured Wednesday evening in a crash at the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Route 70, Brick Township police said Thursday.

Charles Leone, 57, of Brick, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of internal injuries and scrapes suffered in the crash that happened about 7:45 p.m., Brick Patrolman David Thergesen said.

Leone was riding a 1999 Harley Davidson FXD on Route 70 west, and was in the right lane of the two lanes that turn left onto Brick Boulevard southbound, Thergesen said.

As Leone was making the turn, a vehicle that was making the same turn but in the left lane cut across in front of Leone's motorcycle to get to the jughandle for Route 70 East, Thergesen said. That forced Leone to brake hard and try to lay the motorcycle down to avoid a collision, but in the process he was thrown from the motorcycle and injured his face and head, Thergesen said.

Witnesses at the scene said the vehicle that cut Leone off may have been a newer, white Jeep Cherokee.

Traffic on Brick Boulevard south from Route 70 was detoured for about 90 minutes during the investigation, Thergesen said.

Brick Township Police patrol officers, Emergency Medical Services and the Traffic Safety Unit responded.

Thergesen is investigating the crash. Anyone who has information about the Jeep or who witnessed the crash is asked to call him at 732-451-2037.
