Mustangs Beat Cross-Town Rival Dragons 4-3
Brick Memorial Mustangs Defeat Brick Township Dragons 4-3.

The Brick Memorial Mustangs were able to hold off the Brick Township Dragons 4-3. Both teams had their chances to take the lead early in the game but came up empty.
In the top of the 1st inning, the Mustangs had runners on first and second with one out but the Dragons were able to pick off the runner on second and then struck out the hitter who was up at the plate. The Dragons were able to get runners on second and third base with one out, but Senior Teddy Gonzalez who was playing third base for the Mustangs threw out the runner on third at home plate.

The Mustangs were knocking on the door again in the 3rd inning when they had bases loaded and one out, but were unsuccessful in getting a runner to cross home plate.
The Dragons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but the Mustangs answered in the top of the 4th inning. Gonzalez led off the inning with a single and with one out, senior David Clarke walked to put guys on first and second with one out. Senior Justin Bates doubled in Gonzalez to give the Mustangs their first run of the game. Next up was senior Brian Markoski, who hit a three-run home run to give the Mustangs the lead for good. The Dragons were able to pick up another run in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Starting for the Mustangs on the mound was senior Alec Merritt who went five-plus innings, walking five hitters and giving up three runs on five hits to pick up the win. Junior Anthony Garcia took over for Merritt after he walked the lead-off hitter to start the bottom of the 6th inning. He threw two scoreless innings only walking one while picking up the save.
Markoski finished the game 2-4 with a single and a three-run home run. Gonzalez and Clarke both picked up two hits in the win. Bates went 1-1 with an RBI double and two walks. The Mustangs showed great patience at the plate, combining for seven walks as a team.
The Mustangs improved to 4-0 while the Dragons are still looking to pick up their first win. The Mustangs will be home Saturday for a showdown against CBA. The game starts at 10 a.m.
