Mustangs Fall to CBA 10-6

The Brick Memorial Mustangs were not able to complete the comeback today against CBA and suffered their first loss of the season. CBA closed the game out to win it by a score of 10-6.

Starting for the Mustangs on the mound was Senior DJ Wilson. Wilson ran into trouble early as CBA jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Senior Brandon Martorano in the top of the 1st inning.
Junior Salvatore Morreale put the Mustangs down in order in the bottom of the 1st inning. CBA was able to score four runs off of Wilson in the top of the 2nd inning to make it 5-0. Senior Michael Triandafellos, Sophomore Jack Harnisch, Senior Luke Chece, and Martorano each had RBI’s in the inning.
After picking up another run in the top of the 4th inning, CBA was leading 6-0. The bats of the Mustangs finally woke up in the bottom of the inning and scored four runs to shrink the lead to 6-4. Senior Dylan Evans scored the first run for the Mustangs on a throwing error by CBA’s catcher. Then Senior Teddy Gonzalez hit an RBI single followed by an RBI double by Senior Justin Bates. Gonzalez later scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-4
Wilson ended up throwing four innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while walking two batters. Junior Ray Lutick came in and pitched a scoreless 5th inning. The Mustangs tied the game up in the bottom of the inning when Senior Nick Reyes and Gonzalez both had RBI singles.
The Mustangs weren’t able to keep the game tied as CBA scored three runs in the 6th inning off of Lutick to make it a 9-6 game. They added one more in the 7th inning to make it a final score of 10-6.
With the loss, The Mustangs record falls to 4-1 and will be home to play conference rival Toms River East on Monday at 3:45 P.M.
