Jackson got on the scoreboard in the top of 2nd inning and took a 1-0 lead off the Mustangs starting pitcher Senior DJ Wilson.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the 4th inning when the Mustangs were able to score three runs and take the lead. Senior Brian Markoski led off the inning with a walk and then reached third on a throwing error by the catcher. Markoski scored on Senior Dylan Evans’ Sac Fly.
Senior Matt Cuppari and Senior James Donlon both singled followed by a hit by pitch to load the bases. Then Senior Tim Santiago had an RBI single followed by a RBI walk by Senior Dave Clark to make it a 3-1 ball game.
Mustangs weren’t able to hold the lead as Jackson answered right back with three runs of their own in the top of 5th inning. Freshman Alex Iadisernia had a RBI single and Senior Kyle Johnson hit a two run home run off of Wilson to take the lead.
Memorial had their chance in the bottom of the 5th inning, when they had runners on first and second with nobody out and the heart of their line-up coming up to bat. Jackson’s Junior Tim Halasnik was able to retire the next three batters after coming into pitch for Sophomore Shawn Kelich who couldn’t record an out.
Jackson scored two runs in the 6th inning when Halasnik hit a two run home run. They picked up four more runs in the 7th inning to seal the win.
Halasnik picked up the win for Jackson going three innings in relief and Wilson took the loss for the Mustangs. Senior Chris Hawryluk started for Jackson and went four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and five strikeouts.
The Mustang bats fell quite after a big game against Toms River South the other night, as they only mustered up four hits on the day. With the loss the Mustangs record falls to 6-2.
The Mustangs will resume action tomorrow, as they take on Red Bank Regional for another home game at 4:00 P.M.
