BRICK, NJ — A proposal to put a new Dunkin at the corner of Route 88 and Folsom Drive scheduled to go before the Brick Township Planning Board Wednesday night, angering residents of the tiny residential street.

The coffee and pastries company, which recently dropped the "Donuts" from its name, is seeking multiple variances to put the restaurant at the currently undeveloped corner of the intersection that's just east of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church and along a heavily traveled stretch of Route 88.

The proposed site plan for the restaurant would require a number of variances, including one of the township's requirement that business driveways be at least 100 feet from an intersection. The proposed entrance on Folsom Drive is 51.8 feet, according to the letter sent to nearby residents. Variances also are sought for the width of parking spaces, the setback for the trash containment and a design waiver is requested for a bypass lane for the drive-through, according to the letter.

"We have a small neighborhood filled with school bus stops and no sidewalks, curbs or shoulders," a resident who contacted Patch said. "Having a drive through Dunkin’ Donuts would add chaos to an already busy Folsom Drive."

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at the Brick Township Municipal Building.
