New Restaurant Proposed For Seaside Heights Boardwalk

The restaurant would replace a small portion of the Coin Castle arcade, the owners said on Facebook.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ — Part of the Coin Castle Arcade may give way to a restaurant and bar if the Seaside Heights Planning Board gives approval to a project proposed for the arcade spot.

The project listing on the Planning Board's Jan. 7 agenda says the property's owner proposes to remove the amusement games in the part of the arcade, that sits on the boardwalk at the intersection of Ocean Terrace and Webster Avenue. They would be replaced with a full-service fast food restaurant and bar with seating for 84 people.

The Coin Castle signs would be removed and replaced with additional signs for Spicy's, which occupies the other end of the building, according to the agenda.

The proposal is scheduled to be heard by the Seaside Heights Planning Board on Jan. 30. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the borough's municipal building.

In a post on the arcade's Facebook page, the owners said the "two wheel games facing the Boardwalk will be eliminated; it will not affect Coin Castle Arcade, (which) will remain the same."

The Coin Castle Arcade has been a staple of the Seaside Heights boardwalk since 1978, with hundreds of coin-operated video and redemption games, and a number of carnival midway-type games with prizes for winning games of skill or chance.
