New Schools Super to be Selected This Summer

Search getting underway now

The search for the next superintendent of the Brick Township school district is about to ramp up.

West Hudson Associates, the search firm handling the initial stages of the search, will develop advertisements that will run in newspapers over the next few weeks, while they survey local stakeholders to learn what Brick wants in its next schools chief.

"We would like to come to the district and spend all day meeting with groups," said Bill Librera, of West Hudson.

Librera said his company will develop a survey to be posted on the school district's website where residents, teachers and anyone else can have their say as to what qualities the next superintendent should have.

Then, he'll come to Brick the first week in April to meet with groups of people who have a stake in the school system. The results of the survey and meetings will be discussed at a board meeting April 4, Librera said.

The results of the survey and meetings will help the West Hudson team develop criteria by which they can narrow down the candidate pool and present options to the board of education that reflect the type of superintendent the community wants to have.

After the application window closes May 1, board members will have a month to choose the new superintendent, and appoint him or her in early June.

"Using the customary 60 days [notice], that makes somebody available to you Aug. 1," Librera told board members at a meeting Thursday night.

The board opted against renewing the contract of current Superintendent Walter Hrycenko last summer. Hrycenko, who is tenured in the assistant superintendent position, would return there after a new superintendent is chosen.
