Hiker Who Died In Mountain Fall ID'd As Brick Woman

The woman had slipped near the summit of Mount Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondacks, authorities said.

A Brick Township woman has been identified as the hiker who died Thursday after slipping off a mountain trail with her dog in the Adirondacks.

Brianna L. Mohr, 21, died of hypothermia, according to forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica, who performed the autopsy, New York State Police said.

Mohr had been hiking with her dog on Thursday when she slipped off the trail near the summit of Mount Marcy, the tallest mountain in New York, authorities said. It reaches 5,341 feet and is part of the High Peaks Wilderness Area.

Mohr called 911 at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, telling authorities she and her dog had slipped off the trail and were unable to get back on it, said Jeff Wernick, a spokesman for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Rangers from the environmental conservation department searched by ground on a snowmobile and a tracked utility task vehicle, along with searching by air from a New York State Police helicopter, Wernick said.

Thick clouds prevented the two Rangers in the helicopter from seeing Mohr from the air, he said. The search by ground led to the discovery of Mohr's body at 9:51 p.m., he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her dog was found alive and hiked out to safety, Wernick said.

Because of bad weather, Mohr's body was retrieved on Friday by New York State Police and rangers, he said.
