NJSIAA Wrestling: Brick Memorial Advances To Group Championships; Brick Falls
Close matches decide sectional championship titles
The Brick Memorial wrestling team will be seeking a state group championship Sunday, after the Mustangs won their 15th sectional title on Friday night, while the Brick Township High School team will turn its focus to preparing its wrestlers for districts.
The Mustangs defeated Howell, 28-25, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group V championship match at Brick Memorial, according to the Asbury Park Press. They advance to the group championships, which will be held Sunday, weather permitting, at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton. The group semifinals begin at 10 a.m.
The Mustangs (19-1) got a pin from Alec Donovan at 152 and a major decision from Rob Ruggiero at 160 in a string of four straight bout victories, and Connor Owen clinched the match with a decision at 195, according to the Asbury Park Press. Brick Memorial will face North Bergen in the group semifinals.

The Dragons won six straight bouts from 152 to 220 but couldn’t hold off Jackson Memorial, falling 34-31 in the Central Jersey Group IV championship, according to the Press.
Dean Sherry and Kris Wojolaszek head into the district tournament, which begins the march to the individual state championships in Atlantic City, next weekend with unbeaten records.
