The Mustangs defeated North Bergen and Hunterdon Central en route to the title

Brick Memorial’s wrestling team made a lot of noise on its return from Trenton Sunday night.

The Mustangs’ buses were greeted by emergency vehicles sounding their sirens, to go with the honking bus horns, as Brick Memorial celebrated its NJSIAA Group V championship.

It is the school’s ninth group title, to go along with the 15th sectional title won on Friday night.

The Mustangs now turn their attention to the District 23 competition this coming weekend, which is being hosted at Brick Memorial. Wrestlers from Brick Memorial, as well as Asbury Park, Brick Township, Manasquan, Monmouth Regional, Neptune, Point Pleasant Beach, Point Pleasant Boro, St. Rose, Shore Regional and Wall will begin their quests for individual championships, with that competition culminating in three weeks in Atlantic City.

On Sunday, the Mustangs (20-1) had a pretty easy go of it in the Group Championships at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, according to NJ.com. In the semifinals Brick Memorial beat North Bergen 40-15, and in the Group V championship defeated Hunterdon Central 53-15, with six wrestlers winning by pin.
