No Tax Increase In Brick Municipal Budget For 2023

The township's ratable base increased by $35 million in 2022, spreading out the impact of the tax levy.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Council adopted the 2023 municipal budget on Tuesday night, a $115.4 million package that does not increase the township's tax levy.

The $115.4 million budget includes a municipal tax levy of $80.5 million, unchanged from the 2022 budget.

The municipal tax rate is decreasing slightly, from 76.6 cents to 76.3 cents per $100 of assessed value. The decrease equals $3 on a home assessed at the township median of $115,112.

The township's ratable base increased by more than $35 million, to $10.55 billion, spreading out the impact of the municipal tax levy.

Mayor Lisa Crate said the budget was reviewed after its March introduction and some operating costs were reduced.

"Fiscal responsibility is the top priority of my administration and we were once again able to keep taxes stable, and provide a small bit of relief to Brick taxpayers," Crate said. "We understand that every dollar counts during times like this."

The municipal taxes are about a third of the property tax bill. The remainder is for the school district, Ocean County government and local fire districts.
