Ocean Co. Woman Charged With Murder In Husband's Shooting Death

JACKSON, NJ — A Jackson Township woman has been charged with murder in the shooting death of her husband, authorities said Monday.

Antonia Ashford, 44, was charged with murder Monday in the shooting death of her husband, Roderick Ashford, 47, at their home, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz said in a joint statement.

Police received a 911 call to the home about 2:15 a.m. Monday about a man who had been shot, and found Roderick Ashford unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound to the face, authorities said.

First responders tried to revive him but Roderick Ashford was pronounced dead at the scene, Billhimer said.

Investigators determined Antonia Ashford pointed a handgun at her husband and fired it, thereby causing his death, and she was arrested.

Antonia Ashford, who also was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Authorities did not release any additional information or give any indication of motive.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township police and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit investigated.
