UPDATE: One Person Dies, 9 Displaced By Fire At Brick Apartment Complex

One resident suffered a heart attack after the fire, officials said

One person died and nine others were displaced Monday night after a fire in a fourth-floor apartment at the Chambers Bridge Residence, officials said.

Fire Chief Kevin Batzel told the Press that the fire occurred just before 8 p.m. when a resident turned on a stove burner and caught other materials on fire, according to a report by the Asbury Park Press. The resident tried to extinguish the fire then called 911, he said.

Residents of the 184-unit building were evacuated while the flames were extinguished, Batzel said. One of the evacuees suffered a heart attack after the fire and died, he said.
