BRICK, NJ — A Point Pleasant Beach man died late Saturday night after he was hit by a car while crossing Route 88, Brick Township police said Sunday.
Arthur W. Burke, 72, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he was taken following the accident, which happened about 10:15 p.m. near Post Road, Brick Sgt. Keith Donnelly said.
Burke was crossing Route 88 from the south side to the north about 100 feet east of Post Road when he stepped into the path of a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette driven by John Metevier, 44, of Brick. Metevier, who was driving west on Route 88, tried to avoid Burke but was unable to and hit him with the right bumper of the car, Donnelly said. Burke hit the windshield of the car and as Metevier slowed, Burke fell off the car onto the curb and grass at the side of the road. He suffered severe head and internal injuries, Donnelly said.
