Point Pleasant Man Struck, Killed On Route 9 In Howell, Police Say
Charles Waldron was crossing in an area without a crosswalk; the driver was a Brick Township man, police said.

HOWELL, NJ -- A Point Pleasant man was struck and killed as he crossed Route 9 late Sunday evening in an area with no crosswalk, Howell police said.
Charles Waldron, 29, of Point Pleasant, was crossing the road from east to west near the Chapter House restaurant about 10:45 p.m. when he was hit in the southbound lanes by a 2010 Mazda 6 driven by Jesse McMahon, 20, of Brick, Howell Sgt. Christian Antunez said.
McMahon, who pulled over immediately, Antunez said, told police he did not see Waldron until it was too late to avoid hitting him, Antunez said.

The initial investigation has determined Waldron crossed the road and the concrete barrier illegally, as there is no crosswalk or traffic signal for pedestrians in that location, which is about a quarter-mile north of West Farms Road, Antunez said. There have been no charges filed or tickets issued at this time, he said.
