Police Seek Truck That Hit Bicyclist, Left Scene

HOWELL, NJ -- The Howell Township Police Department is seeking the public’s help after a pickup truck hit a bicyclist on Lanes Mill Road Saturday evening and left the scene.

The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. Saturday on Lanes Mill Road just east of Castle Court, according to police, and the man on the bicycle suffered back and head injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Howell Sgt. Thomas Weg said the cyclist was traveling west on Lanes Mill Road when he was struck by a brown pickup truck. According to a witness to the crash, the pickup truck struck the cyclist and continued west on Lanes Mill Road towards Route 9. The pickup truck would have a headlight out and damage to the passenger side of the vehicle, Weg said.

The injured cyclist was treated on scene by the Howell Township First Aid Squad and MONOC paramedics and was taken to the hospital; his name was being withheld pending notification to the family members.
